Amidst the current crisis, the monetary union is at crossroads. Does it remain a house without a protective roof or can it be repaired? Four scenarios are possible for the future development of the Eurozone: (1) a continuation of the political "muddling through", (2) a break-up of the monetary union, (3) the creation of a core Europe, smaller than the Eurozone, or (4) its supplementation through a fiscal and a political union.
